Aberdeen and North - Wed, 12 Dec, 2012

Aberdeen and North - Wed, 12 Dec, 2012 Tube. Duration : 25.58 Mins.

There's more gloomy news for the High Street with new figures showing that sales were down again last month. The crucial run-up to Christmas is proving slower than many had hoped, in a year where many long established businesses have gone to the wall. In other news: According to new figures the number of people out of work fell by nineteen thousand between August and October. Scotland's unemployment rate is now better than the UK as a whole. However, the number of those in work fell. The Scottish Government have given the figures a cautious welcome. The Scottish Government has won its marathon legal battle with one of the world's biggest tobacco companies to ban cigarette displays in shops. Imperial Tobacco had asked the UK Supreme Court to rule that the ban was outside the scope of the Holyrood parliament. The Scottish Government has launched a consultation on a Draft Bill which would legalise marriage for same sex couples. Church leaders are threatening to take the Scottish Government to court over the issue, which looks set to become law with the overwhelming majority of MSPs backing reform. And in sports: The Arbroath players are plotting another David and Goliath performance against Celtic. Steven Doris' late goal secured a shock 1-1 draw at Parkhead earlier this month - now they're looking to Humble the Hoops again by beating them at Gayfield.
