The Labour Leader Ed Miliband has told his party's annual conference in Manchester that they will have to lead, and win the fight, for Scotland to remain in the UK. Mr Miliband invoked the performance of British Olympians in arguing Scotland would be better off in the Union. Earlier in the day, the Scottish Labour leader Joanne Lamont made her first speech to the UK party conference. She hit back at claims by the SNP that she was a poster girl for the Tories, after she questioned whether their spending plans were affordable. In other news, two of Scotland's leading defence lawyers have warned that televising criminal trials could put lives at risk. The Justice Committee at the Scottish parliament was hearing evidence on the role of the media in our courts. And finally in sport, Craig Levein admits he 'bit the bullet' after dramatically recalling Steven Fletcher to the Scotland squad for this month's world cup qualifiers.
